The opening of Tuesday’s San Jose City Council meeting was anything but drab thanks to the drag performer WooWoo Monroe.Adorned in a multicolored dress with cropped pink hair and stunning eye makeup, WooWoo sang Gloria Gaynor’s “I Am What I Am” — receiving a standing ovation — and delivered a timely message as drag queen story hours are being protested in some communities.“We are lucky enough to live in a place that is open, diverse and affirming but there are many other parts of the country that do not share the same values as we do here in California,” said WooWoo, also known as George Downes. “It is therefore important for those of us who can stand up and speak to do so. We need to let the world know that anti-trans and anti-drag legislation and movements are not only wrong but harmful to so many.”Woo Woo Monroe has a standing ovation after singing at San Jose City Hall in San Jose, Calif., on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. Rupert Murdoch’s announcement Monday that he is marrying for the fifth time left many asking: Who Ann Lesley Smith, the woman who has signed up to become the latest wife of the 92-year-old billionaire? As Murdoch’s own New York Post reported, Smith is the 66-year-old widow of another media mogul: Chester Smith, the Modesto-based radio and TV executive who died in 2008. Smith told the Post’s Cindy Adams that her whirlwind romance with the Fox News founder, which began in September, was “a gift from God” and that they share many of “the same beliefs.”The New York Post also shared a curious detail that raised questions about Smith’s connections to the Bay Area. Smith supposedly was a former chaplain for the San Francisco Police Department, Adams reported. While a San Francisco police spokesperson said the department had no record of Smith ever being affiliated with its chaplain program, other past interviews with Smith suggest that the one-time dental hygienist started her “...

(KRON) -- This winter is the second-snowiest ever recorded by UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab in the past 77 years. Climate scientists were out measuring snowfall when the record was officially set on Monday. "With 7.7 (inches) of snow over the last day, '22/'23 has passed '82/'83 as the 2nd snowiest season since the CSSL was built in 1946!" the snow lab wrote on Twitter. The snow lab said total snowfall for this season is now 56.4 feet (677 inches). California has been drenched by 14 atmospheric rivers since December, according to the National Weather Service. Before this winter can become the snow lab's No. 1 snowiest-ever on record, it needs to break 1952's snowfall total of 812 inches. "Still far from #1 but we'll get closer over the next week," the snow lab wrote. Cuál sería la causa de los recientes colapsos bancarios

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:59:18 GMT

Spring brings more wind, rain and snow to soaked California

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A strong late-season Pacific storm brought damaging winds and more rain and snow to saturated California on Tuesday as the first full day of spring showed little change from the state’s extraordinary winter. The storm focused most of its energy on central and southern parts of the state, bringing threats of heavy runoff and mountain snowfall that forecasters said will be measured in feet. In the Monterey Bay region, a severe windstorm located over the ocean blasted Santa Cruz County with wind gusts up to 80 mph (129 kph) at midday. Trees and power lines were reported downed, the National Weather Service said.More than 126,000 Pacific Gas & Electric customers were without power by early afternoon, mostly in the region south of San Francisco, according to PowerOutage.us.
