$7M worth of drugs seized, 150 charges laid in months-long drug probe

Thirty-nine people are facing more than 150 charges after a months-long drug probe resulted in the seizure of more than $7 million worth of drugs across the GTA.Police in York Region say they opened an investigation in April 2023 after receiving reports about a woman trafficking drugs in Newmarket. The investigation uncovered a much larger network of traffickers dealing in large quantities of fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine.A total of 23 search warrants were executed at locations in Newmarket, Vaughan, Mississauga, Ajax and Toronto with more than 11 kilos of crystal methamphetamine, more than six kilos of cocaine, and more than two kilos of fentanyl, which police say could have been processed into 27 kilos of street fentanyl.The total value of the drugs seized is estimated at more than $7 million.As many as 39 people are facing 156 criminal charges ranging from possession to trafficking, while arrest warrants have been issued for five others for a variety of drug-related charg...Former Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald sues university for $130 million

CHICAGO — Attorneys for former Northwestern University football coach Pat Fitzgerald have filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the school after his firing in July.The lawsuit, which was announced at Winston & Strawn LLP in downtown Chicago Thursday morning, claims that he was wrongfully and "illegally" terminated as head coach and will seek economic damages of $130 million.Attorney Dan Webb, representing Fitzgerald, said the amount of money is for what was left on his contract at Northwestern and the fact that the coach can never work again at this level. ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. — A 17-year-old boy who was shot and killed in Round Lake Wednesday night, police said has been identified.Lake County Coroner's office identified the victim as Chad Greenwald from Fox Lake. According to police, officers were searching for a phone that dialed 911said around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday night and located a car at a gas station near the area of Cedar Lake and Rollins Road that appeared to be damaged by gunfire.Greenwald was found with gunshot wounds to the chest and he transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead. HOMER GLEN, Ill. — An 18-year-old died late Wednesday night and a woman is in critical condition following a head-on crash in Homer Glen.Officers responded to a report of a three-vehicle crash just after 11:40 p.m. in the 17000 block of South Cedar Road. OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Management of a south Oklahoma City mobile home park urged its residents this week not to speak out about a 13-foot-long cat-eating albino python still in the neighborhood. Residents of Burntwood Mobile Home Park claim the park's management knew about the python since June and did nothing. AUSTIN (KXAN) — A person died after a rollover crash on State Highway 71 near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Thursday morning. The westbound lanes of the highway were closed for more than five hours due to the crash. The highway was fully reopened around 10:15 a.m.Austin-Travis County EMS said on social media at 5:07 a.m. that medics pronounced an adult patient dead on the scene. The westbound lanes of the highway near Brandt Drive were closed for several hours and impacted airport traffic.
